About Spice Cookies with Powdered Sugar

These spice cookies with powdered sugar are really easy to make. And as a cookie that requires chilling the dough before baking, they are great to make ahead for a cookie swap or bake sale. You can mix-up the cookie dough and have it ready to go in the refrigerator for you to bake the cookies the next day.

These cookies are also fun to make with kids. I mean who doesn’t enjoy getting their hands dirty when they bake. Let the kids roll the cookies in powdered sugar and they will enjoy the fun of coating the cookies. And, licking their fingers when they’re done.

There are a couple ways to cover these cookies in powdered sugar. I prefer rolling them in the sugar so that the cookies don’t break on me. But, you can also use a Ziploc bag to gently mix the cookies with the powdered sugar. Either way works well and it really comes down to your personal preference.

Powdered Sugar Cookie Ideas

These spice cookies with powdered sugar are reminiscent of a couple other drop cookies. Probably the most popular one is the Mexican Wedding Cookie, also known as a Russian tea cake. The primary difference between this recipe and the Mexican Wedding Cookie is that this cookie is loaded with spices. The wedding cookie is a lighter cookie, much more like a shortbread rolled in powdered sugar.

Another drop cookie rolled in powdered sugar is a Pfeffernusse. This German cookie also contains spices, most notably pepper which is where the name comes from. Pfeffer is the German word for pepper and these cookies typically include either white or black pepper in the recipe.
