These dipped peppermint Oreos are the perfect choice when you need a quick and easy dessert for the holidays. These no-bake treats are so easy to make and even prettier still. With creamy chocolate and a peppermint crunch, these treats are a real crowd-pleaser. They are perfect for holiday parties, a cookie exchange, or last-minute dessert.
Making Dipped Peppermint Oreos
Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a beginner, this recipe is so simple that anyone can make them. Let’s dive into how to create these irresistible holiday cookies.
Ingredients:
- Oreos
- White chocolate melting wafers
- Peppermint candy
You can use any Oreo flavor you’d like for these dipped peppermint Oreos, but I’m partial to sticking with original Oreos. Or, double-stuffed if you’re like my daughter and think that the filling is the best part. They usually come out with a special red colored filling for the holidays, and I think that would also look really pretty. But again, go with whatever you’d like.
I like to use the Ghiardelli white chocolate vanilla melting wafers because they melt really nicely, and they have a good flavor. But you can use candy melts, or white chocolate chips if you prefer. For white chocolate chips you may need to add a teaspoon of shortening to make the mixture extra creamy, glossy, and tempered properly.
Round peppermint candies are my favorite to use for this recipe because they have a nice peppermint flavor and the candy breaks up into nice-sized chunks. But you can also use candy canes, or a chocolate peppermint bark. Any peppermint flavored candy works for this recipe.
Step by Step Process for Dipped Oreos
These dipped peppermint Oreos are as easy as 1-2-3. Here are the steps to making them.
Prepare Ingredients
Melt the white chocolate melting wafers in the microwave. The length of time it takes to melt the chocolate depends upon how much you use, and the size of the wafers (or chips). I like to start with 30 seconds, stir, and then repeat the process in 30-second intervals.
Place the peppermint candy in a Ziploc bag. Then using a rolling pin, skillet, or meat mallet, crush the candy into pieces. Be careful that you don’t crush it into a fine dust. You want to have tiny chunks of the candy so that it stands out when placed on the Oreos.
Dipping Oreos
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Now you are ready to start dipping the Oreos into the melted chocolate. One at a time, dip each Oreo into the white chocolate and then place the Oreo on the parchment. Move quickly so that the chocolate doesn’t set up on you.
Adding Peppermint
With the chocolate dipped Oreos laid-out on the baking sheet, sprinkle the crushed peppermint candy on top. I prefer doing it this way vs. dipping the Oreos in the candy. Dipping the Oreos tends to get more candy on it, so if that’s what you’re going for give it a try. But also keep in mind that this will require more peppermint candy than if you use the sprinkling method.
See what I mean when I said that these dipped peppermint Oreos are easy to make? They come together so quickly that I love making them when I need a last-minute dessert. Or, when I need a lot of cookies for a party or Christmas cookie exchange.
As soon as the chocolate has set you can package up the cookies. Dipped peppermint Oreos keep for a long time, as long as they are stored in an airtight container. They make a pretty gift too. Place them in a mason jar, pretty Christmas tin, or a paper box tied with a ribbon and bow. An easy no-bake dessert that is great for gift gifting to teachers, neighbors, and friends.
People always love Oreos and these chocolate dipped Oreos are so pretty. They’ll look so pretty on your Christmas table that people will think they are too pretty to eat- almost. I mean who can resist the crunchy, creamy goodness of Oreos. So grab a glass of milk and start dunking!
