Making No Bake Alligator Cookies

These no bake cookies are so much fun to make with kids. Especially if your child loves animals. I mean you can call these alligator cookies or crocodile cookies. I’ve even heard people call them Mardi Gras alligator cookies. I have never been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, but I hear that alligator po’boys and alligator themes are all the rage during the celebration. So if you’re having a party, or just want to celebrate the start of Lent, these cookies are a fun treat to serve.

Step by Step Process with Pictures

There aren’t many ingredients for these no bake alligator cookies. You just need some Nutter Butter cookies, candy melts, and some decorations to make the alligator eyes, teeth, and crown. The crown is a nod to Mardi Gras, so you don’t have to include them, but I think they make the cookies super cute.

Step One: Melt the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. The amount of time it takes varies by brand, so double check the instructions on the back of the bag. I like to start with heating the melts for one minute. Then I continue in 30-second intervals until the candy chocolate has melted.

Step Two: Dip the Nutter Butter cookies in the melted chocolate. You need to move quickly once you start dipping the cookies, so I like to have a parchment lined baking sheet prepared before I start. Use a spoon, or fork, to cradle the cookie. Dip the Nutter Butter until it is completely covered in chocolate, and then place it on the parchment paper.

Step Three: Decorate the cookies by adding two eyes, teeth, and the crown. You need to move quickly so that the chocolate doesn’t harden before you add all of the sprinkles and decorations. Add two candy eyeballs for the eyes, and use five white heart-shaped sprinkles to form the mouth. Top each of the alligator cookies with a crown, or any other decorations you choose.

Let the cookies sit so that the chocolate can set. Once it has, the cookies are ready to serve. Or, to package up. Store the cookies in an airtight container and they will last for at least a week. That means that you can make them ahead of time if you have a party that you’re planning for. Or when you want a fun snack for the kids to have after school. Whatever the occasion, these alligator, or crocodile cookies are sure to make everyone smile.
