How do you turn a classic cookie into a holiday favorite? Add some Christmas color and double the chocolate. These MM Christmas Cookies include Christmas colored M&Ms, plus chocolate chips. So it’s essentially two favorites combined to make the perfect holiday cookie.
These MM Christmas cookies are easy to make, and they work well for any holiday event. Bring them to a Christmas cookie exchange, give as gifts to neighbors, and friends. Or, make them for your family to enjoy.
How to Make MM Christmas Cookies
Here are the ingredients needed for this MM Christmas cookies recipe. If you prefer to skip the chocolate chips, just add more M&Ms. I like to use the candy and chocolate chips because it gives the cookie a nice mix of melted chocolate, and a crunchy bite from the M&Ms.
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups Christmas M&M’s (red and green)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper, or silicone baking mats.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add Vanilla and Eggs: Add the vanilla extract and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Fold in M&M’s and Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the Christmas M&M’s and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Scoop and Bake: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
My Tips for Christmas M&M Cookies
Using room temperature butter makes it nice and easy to mix the butter and sugars together. It creams together nicely with a stand mixer, or hand mixer. But if you don’t have one this cookie dough comes together easily when it is mixed by hand.
Don’t overmix once the dry ingredients are added. And, do not over bake. Pull the cookies out of the oven when the center looks undercooked. The center of the cookies will set-up as they cool.
I like to make smaller, bite-size cookies for the holidays. That way I can make more cookies per batch. And, people can enjoy a small cookie after a big meal. Make the cookies as big, or small, as you’d like. Baking time will vary between 10-12 minutes based on the size you choose. You can make 36 cookies if you go with the smaller size.
These MM Christmas cookies are proof that holiday cookies don’t have to be fancy, or difficult to make. Sometimes the easiest recipes are the best. M&M cookies and chocolate chip cookies are loved by all. Combining these two favorites into one Christmas cookie is sure to please kids, and adults alike at your next Christmas gathering.
