One of the things that I love about this recipe is that it’s really easy to make. Some holiday snacks and baked goods can be really time-consuming to make, or you need a lot of decorations or colors to make them. But this spooky eyeball cookie recipe doesn’t take much.

The other thing I like about this cookie is that it’s something that people will like. It’s a double chocolate chip cookie. Now who doesn’t love that? So it’s a yummy cookie treat that’s taken to the next level with some black food dye and candy eyes.

Candy eyes are a fun decoration to keep in your pantry because you can use them for lots of different baked goods. They can be used as eyes for your decorated sugar cookies. Or, keeping with the Halloween theme, you can use them to create monster face cupcakes. These eyes can be used for fun, silly, or scary-themed treats.

Here are the ingredients needed to make these double chocolate chip cookies with spooky eyes.

  • ยฝ cup unsalted butter
  • ยพ cup dark brown sugar
  • ยผ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Black food dye
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ยฝ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 ยฝ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Candy eyeballs

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Addย 1/2 cup softened butter,ย 3/4 cup white sugar,ย and 3/4 cup brown sugar to a mixing bowl. Beat together for 2 minutes until combined.

Add a hefty amount of black food gel or 5-6 food dye drops. Mix together adding more for a deeper shade of black.

Add in 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix together with a hand mixer until a thick dough forms.

Add 2 Tablespoons milk and blend together again until smooth.

Pour in 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips and fold with a rubber spatula until combined.

The cookie dough doesn’t need to be chilled, but if you’d like to it can be covered and placed in the refrigerator until ready to bake the cookies.

Nine scoops of dark cookie dough are placed on a parchment-lined baking sheet, evenly spaced and ready to bake.

Place a 2-inch scoop or 2 teaspoons of cookie dough on the baking sheet. Place each cookie about 2 inches apart.

Press down on the cookie balls to flatten a little. Place the small and big candy eyeballs all over the front of each cookie. Leave a little space between each eye, as the cookies will spread slightly when baking.

Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
