Red Velvet Blossom Cookies Recipe: Festive and Easy to Make
These red velvet blossom cookies combine two favorites. Like a typical blossom cookie, these cookies are topped with a chocolate kiss. The difference comes with the type of cookie. If you’re used to making peanut butter blossom cookies, you’ll love the red velvet flavor in these cookies. And with their red color, they are a great cookie for a special dinner, Valentine’s Day, or anytime you want a pretty, quick, and easy dessert.
About Red Velvet Blossom Cookies
These red velvet blossom cookies are so easy to make. An electric mixer is best for creaming the butter and sugar together, but if you don’t have a mixer, that’s fine. It’s an easy recipe to mix by hand.
For me, the star of this recipe is the Hershey Kiss on top of each cookie. But as a chocaholic, I always love extra chocolate on my blossom cookies. You can pipe chocolate ganache on top of each cookie, or use a larger piece of chocolate like a Hershey’s Nugget or Dove Chocolate Promise if you want a little extra chocolate on each cookie.
Ingredients needed for the Cookies:
- 7 Tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg yolk
- Red gel food coloring
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup Red sanding sugar
- 18 Hershey kisses unwrapped
Step by Step With Photos
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the 7 Tablespoons butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar together.
Add 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1 egg yolk. Beat until thoroughly combined.
Add red gel food coloring and mix until combined.
In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup flour, 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. The dough will be crumbly.
Use a cookie scoop to roll 1-inch balls. The dough will come together as you roll the balls between your hands. Roll each ball in the red sanding sugar, then place on the parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Bake the cookies for 10 minutes. Remove them from the oven and immediately top with a Hershey kiss.
Let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
I hope you enjoy making these red velvet blossom cookies. I guarantee that these will disappear as quickly as you serve them, so you may want to make a double batch. These cookies are fun to make, pretty to look at, and a yummy treat that’s perfect for any occasion.
