About Twix Sugar Cookie Cups

If Twix is your favorite candy bar, then you’re going to love this Twix cookie cups recipe. The secret to this recipe is that it uses store bought sugar cookie dough. If you prefer to use your favorite sugar cookie recipe, or use a sugar cookie mix, that’s fine too. But to make it super easy, use a tube of refrigerated cookie dough.

The cookies are made by using a muffin tin to create a cup shape cookie base filled with creamy caramel. Top it off with a melted chocolate layer and you have a Twix candy bar in cookie form.

Tips for How to Make Twix Cups

  1. Pull all of your ingredients out of the refrigerator when you start to preheat the oven. This way the cookie dough will be room temperature and easier to mold into the muffin tins.
  2. This recipe is designed to be used with a 12-tin cupcake pan, but you can also make this recipe using a mini muffin pan. You’ll just have to adjust how much sugar cookie you put in each tin and cut the bake time in half. Mini Twix cookie cups are perfect for a party when you want to give people bite-sized treats.
  3. Be sure to use a non-stick cooking spray to grease the muffin pan. If you don’t have nonstick spray, use butter or shortening to grease the pan.
  4. If you don’t want to use the stovetop, use a microwave instead. Simply put the heavy cream and caramel in a microwave-safe bowl and heat until the caramel has melted. Stir to mix together. You can do the same thing to make the chocolate topping. Heat the cream in the microwave until it’s hot and then pour over chocolate to melt.
  5. The recipe calls for milk chocolate chips because Twix candy bars have milk chocolate. But you can use a rich milk chocolate bar instead of chips if you prefer. Just chop it up so that it will melt faster.
  6. Use sea salt, or salt flakes to top each cookie. This is optional, but if you’ve ever had a sea salt caramel you know that just a tiny bit of salt on top really enhances the flavor.
  7. These cookies keep really well, so they are perfect to make ahead of time. Just store them in an airtight container in a single layer. Or, with waxed paper or parchment paper between layers if you need to stack them.

Equipment

  • Cupcake Pan
  • Saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1 tube of refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 10 ounce bag of caramel squares
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cup milk chocolate chips
  • Coarse salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Spray cupcake pan with non-stick spray.
  • Squeeze some sugar cookie dough into each cupcake cup. Start with about 3 tablespoons and press into the sides and bottom of each cup, molding it into the shape of each cup.
  • Add more sugar cookie dough if needed. Repeat with all 12 cupcake sections.
  • Bake in the oven for 15-17 minutes or until the cookie dough is lightly browned.
  • Let cool completely.
  • In a small saucepan, heat ½ cup of the heavy cream until steaming, but not boiling.
  • In a bowl add the chocolate chips. Once the milk is hot, pour over the chocolate chips and let sit for a couple minutes. Stir until all the chocolate chips are melted and smooth. Set aside.
  • In another saucepan add the caramel squares and ¼ cup of the heavy cream. Melt over medium heat, stirring every so often so the caramels don’t stick. Once the mixture is melted and combined, remove from the heat.
  • At this point the sugar cookie cups should be cool enough to remove from the pan. Use a butter knife if necessary to help remove the edges of the cups from the pan. Transfer the cups to a platter, pan or clean surface.
  • Place a large tablespoon of the melted caramel in each sugar cookie cup. By the time you finish all 12, the caramel should have cooled a bit to where the chocolate won’t mix when added on top.
  • Scoop tablespoons full of the melted chocolate mixture on top of the caramel until the sugar cookie cup is full to the top.
  • Sprinkle it with sea salt to balance the sweetness of the dessert.
  • Let these Twix cookie cups set in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy or store in a tightly sealed container!

Why I Like This Recipe

I’ve seen a lot of cookie recipes for making homemade Twix bars, but usually the recipes are quite elaborate. I love this recipe because it’s quick, easy, and delicious. While I’m someone who loves to bake everything from scratch, sometimes having an easy recipe that uses store bought cookie dough is a real time saver. Especially when you need to make a big batch of cookies for a party, bake sale, or church dinner. People will be so happy to have a cookie with the flavors of a popular candy bar.

These Twix sugar cookie cups have the yummy, chewy caramel that we all love in a Twix bar. And instead of going with a shortbread cookie, the sugar cookie base gives the cookie a softer bite. I hope you enjoy making these cookies. I think they are a lot of fun to make, especially with kids, and they’ll appreciate that the cookie is like a delicious Twix candy bar.
