About Cookie Monster Cookies

To make these cookie monster cookies you need to make a cookie dough for the base cookie. Then you need your favorite store bought cookies to use as mix-ins for the cookies. I have used Chips Ahoy and Oreos for my fill-ins, but you can substitute your favorite cookies.

Step by Step Process With Photos

These cookie monster cookies are fun and easy to make. Of course one of the key ingredients for this recipe is blue food coloring. That’s what you need to give these cookies the iconic blue color like Cookie Monster. The rest of the ingredients are standard ingredients you’d use for chocolate chip cookies.

This cookie dough needs to chill for about 30 minutes, so don’t preheat the oven until you’re ready to bake the cookies. When you are, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside until you need it.

Place the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a bowl and mix until creamy. I like to use an electric mixer, hand or stand, to make the creaming process easier. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and then add the eggs, plus vanilla extract.

Once the wet ingredients are mixed together, it’s time to add the blue food coloring. Add a bit and mix to evenly distribute the color. Add more dye if you want a deeper blue color.

When the mixture is the color you desire, add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Use a spoon, or spatula, to gently mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Then add the chocolate chips, and pieces of Chip Ahoys and Oreos. Stir to mix the cookie pieces into the cookie dough.

Use a cookie scoop to scoop out 1-2 tablespoons of cookie dough. Place the cookie dough balls on the parchment lined baking sheet. Top each ball with additional cookie pieces.

Bake the cookies for about 12-14 minutes. The amount of baking time will depend upon the size of the cookies, so I recommend to start checking on them at about 10 minutes. Don’t overbake the cookies. Let the cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

You can now dig into your cookie monster cookies. Loaded with the crunch and flavor of the added cookie pieces, these cookies are a real treat. They disappear almost as quickly as if Cookie Monster himself ate them. If you do happen to have any leftover, store them in an airtight container.
