About Red White Blue Cookie Recipe

This red white blue cookie recipe is the best of two classic cookies. Part M&M cookie, and part chocolate chip. The MMs add both an extra level of chocolate to the cookies, plus the red, white, and blue colors make them the perfect patriotic cookies for the 4th of July.

Step by Step With Photos

I love how easy it is to make these red white and blue cookies. If you don’t have the seasonal M&Ms on hand you could always skip them, but they add tons of flavor and crunch to these cookies. Likewise you can skip the sprinkles if you want, but they add extra color and a festive look to these Patriotic cookies.

For the chocolate chips, choose whatever kind of chocolate you’d like. I’m partial to semisweet chocolate chips, but milk chocolate chips or dark chocolate are great too.

Red White Blue Cookie Recipe Ingredients

The nice thing about this red white blue cookie recipe is that the cookie dough does not need to be chilled. So when you want to make the cookies, start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

In the bowl of a stand mixer, or a large bowl if using a hand mixer, add 12 Tablespoons unsalted butter. Beat on medium speed until creamy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup sugar.

Scrape down the bowl again and then add the dry ingredients. Add 2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Mix on low speed just until combined. Then add 1 cup chocolate chips, 1 cup red, white, blue M&Ms, and 2 Tablespoons sprinkles. I like to mix them in by hand instead of using the mixer for this step.

Once the chocolate and candies are evenly distributed, use a spoon or cookie scoop to scoop out cookie dough. Place on the baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each.

Bake the cookies for about 11-14 minutes. The time will depend upon your oven, and the size of the cookies, so start checking on them around 10 minutes. Be sure not to overbake. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring to a wire rack to finish cooling.
