Making Turkey Cupcakes With Oreos

You can make turkey cupcakes in any flavor you’d like. I used a chocolate cake mix for this example, but you can go with vanilla if you prefer. If you want to make homemade chocolate cupcakes, here’s my recipe for chocolate cupcakes with sour cream.

Here are the ingredients needed.

  • 6 Cupcakes
  • 8 Ounces Buttercream frosting
  • 3 Oreos
  • Yellow Food Gel
  • Red Food Gel Color
  • Orange Food Gel Color
  • Candy Eyes

Step by Step With Photos

Use your favorite vanilla frosting recipe, or keep it simple with store-bought frosting. You need about 8 ounces total. Divide the frosting evenly into 3 bowls and add gel food coloring to each. Add about 2-3 drops of yellow coloring to one bowl, red to another, and orange to the final bowl. Stir each bowl to distribute the food coloring throughout the frosting.

Three glass bowls of white frosting are arranged in a row, each with a bottle of food coloringโ€”red, blue, and yellowโ€”positioned above them on a white surface.

Three glass bowls containing orange, red, and yellow frosting are arranged in a row on a white surface.

Transfer each of the colored frosting into a piping bag. Tie the ends of the bags and snip the tips. Start with the red buttercream and pipe a straight line about one inch from the top of the cupcake. Then pipe a cloudlike, bumpy line that connects to each end of the straight line.

Now fill this area with more red buttercream, then use a butter knife to spread the frosting. Pipe orange buttercream to overlap the bottom of the red buttercream. Follow the same process as you did to draw and fill in the red frosting. After the orange cloud is filled in, repeat the process with the yellow frosting.

These turkey cupcakes with Oreos are now ready for their cute faces. Separate the Oreos and scrape off the cream. I like using the inside of the Oreo as the Turkey’s face because it’s smooth and doesn’t have ridges.

Pipe two red circles onto the Oreo, then place a candy eye on top of each red dot. Then use the yellow frosting to pipe a triangle for the beak.

Use the red frosting to pipe the red snood around the Turkey beak. Once the face is complete, add a little yellow frosting to the back and place it on the bottom of the cupcake. The Oreo will cover most of the yellow frosting.
