About Cake Eyeballs for Halloween
These eyeball cake balls are made using a boxed cake mix, but if you prefer to start from scratch, you can. However, I personally think it’s a waste to make a cake from scratch just to mush it up into cake balls. I prefer to save the homemade cakes for cakes and use a cake mix for cake balls and cake pops. I made vanilla cake balls, but you can make whatever flavor you’d like.
Ingredients needed to make bloody eyeball cake balls:
- 1 box vanilla cake mix
- 1 cup water
- ยฝ cup oil
- 3 eggs
- ยฝ cup premade vanilla icing
- 20 ounces white candy melts or white chocolate
- Bloody eyeball candy decorations
Step by Step With Photos
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9″x13″ baking pan. Set aside until needed.
Place the cake mix, 3 eggs, 1/2 cup of oil, and 1 cup of water into a mixing bowl.
Using an electric mixer, mix the ingredients until combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Pour the batter into the greased 9″x13″ baking pan. Bake for about 30 minutes, until golden.
Remove the cake from the oven and let the cake cool completely.
Once the cake has cooled completely, use a fork to break up the cake into pieces. Pour the crumbled cake and 1/2 cup vanilla frosting into a bowl.
Use an electric mixer to stir the cake and frosting together until combined.
Use aย cookie scoopย or a tablespoon to scoop out about 1-2 tablespoons of cake mixture. Roll the dough into a ball and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Refrigerate or freeze the cake balls, for at least an hour, or until you’re ready to decorate them.
Melt 20 ounces of white chocolate melts in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth.
Dip each cake ball into the melted white chocolate. Let the excess drip off, and then place the ball back on the parchment. Top the cake balls with a bloodshot candy eye.
That’s all there is to making cake eyeballs for Halloween. Store the cake balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. They are a great after-school snack for the kids to enjoy one ball at a time.
These cake eyeballs prove that Halloween desserts donโt need to be complicated to stand out. With the shortcut of a boxed cake mix, you can whip up a whole batch without spending all day in the kitchen. Set them out on a party tray, and youโll have a treat thatโs guaranteed to get a few double takes before everyone digs in.
