The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. You don’t need advanced baking skills or a pantry full of obscure ingredients. What you do need is a bit of patience while the chocolate sets, a steady hand for drizzling, and an appreciation for how small touchesโlike seasonal sprinklesโcan transform something simple into something memorable.
About Chocolate Covered Oreos for Fall
Most of us have enjoyed a chocolate-covered Oreo at some point, perhaps from a bakery or a specialty shop. A lot of homemade Oreos are dipped in chocolate to decorate them, but using a mold gives you a clean appearance that you just can’t get with dipping. The mold creates a smooth, professional finish on both sides of the cookie, encasing it completely in chocolate. It’s a small detail, but it makes a difference in both appearance and texture.
The orange drizzle adds a pop of color that immediately signals the season, while fall sprinklesโthink tiny pumpkins, autumn leaves, or warm-toned jimmiesโbring playfulness and personality. Together, these elements create a treat that feels thoughtfully made without requiring hours of your time.
Here are the ingredients needed.
- 10 oz Ghirardelli’s milk chocolate melting wafer
- 6 Oreo cookies
- 6 ounces orange candy melts
- 4 Tablespoons Fall-themed sprinkles
Why Use a Mold?
You might wonder whether a mold is truly necessary. After all, you could dip Oreos in chocolate and call it done. And that would be perfectly fine. But molds offer a few advantages worth considering.
First, they create an even coating on both sides of the cookie, eliminating the flat spot you often get when setting dipped cookies on parchment paper. Second, they help contain any excess chocolate, reducing waste and mess. Third, they give your finished product a uniform, polished look that feels intentionalโlike you meant for them to look exactly this way.
Oreo molds are widely available online and relatively inexpensive. They’re typically made from food-safe silicone and can be reused countless times, making them a worthwhile investment if you plan to make these treats more than once.
Step by Step With Photos
Start by melting the chocolate. If you’re using candy melts, follow the directions on the package. Otherwise, place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between intervals. Continue until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
Place some chocolate in the bottom of each of the Oreo molds. Place an Oreo on top of the chocolate.
Add more melted chocolate on top of the Oreos, covering the cookies completely. Place the chocolate-covered Oreos in the refrigerator or freezer for 10 minutes until hard.
Remove the chocolate covered Oreos from the mold. Melt 3 Tablespoons of orange candy melts in the microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth. Transfer to a piping bag. Snip the end and drizzle the orange chocolate over the Oreos.
Immediately top the chocolate covered Oreos with fall themed sprinkles. You need to add the toppings before the chocolate drizzle hardens. Once the toppings have set, the Oreos are ready to serve, or to place in an airtight container.
I hope you enjoy making Chocolate Covered Oreos for Fall. There’s something so satisfying about creating something attractive and delicious with your own hands, especially when the process itself is enjoyable rather than stressful. The rhythm of melting, molding, drizzling, and decorating has a meditative quality to it. And when you’re done, you have cookies that make people happy. So whip up a batch for your next party, tailgating, or Thanksgiving gathering.
