About Fourth of July Oreo Balls
These Fourth of July Oreo balls are so easy to make. With just two ingredients needed to make the Oreo ball itself, it really doesn’t get any easier when it comes to a quick and easy dessert. There are also lots of ways you can decorate the Oreo balls, so get creative and have fun as you decorate these Patriotic Oreo Balls.
Step by Step With Photos
These Fourth of July Oreo Balls are so easy to make that I don’t have a lot of tips. The most important thing is to use room temperature cream cheese. The softened cream cheese will blend together better with the Oreo crumbs and will give the Oreo truffles a smooth bite.
Another tip I have is for the chocolate. If the chocolate is thicker than you’d like, add a drop of coconut oil and stir to combine with the chocolate. Sometimes I do this just with the melted chocolate that I use to drizzle on top of the chocolate covered Oreo balls. This way the chocolate is thinner and is easier to drizzle. Make sure to add the sprinkles, or any decorations, before the chocolate drizzle hardens.
Start by placing the Oreos in the bowl of a food processor. Pulse the Oreos until you get a fine crumb. If you don’t have a food processor you can place the Oreos in a Ziploc bag and use something hard to hit the bag to crush the Oreos. It takes a little more time and effort this way, but it still works. I like to use the smooth end of a meat pounder when I use this method.
In a separate bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the Oreos to the cream cheese and mix together until smooth.
Now you’re ready to start forming the balls. I like to use a cookie scoop to scoop out the Oreo mixture. Roll between your hands to create Oreo balls that are about 1 inch in diameter. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and freeze the balls for about 20 minutes.
About 5 minutes before the Oreo truffle balls are ready to come out of the freezer, start working on the chocolate. I prefer to melt the chocolate in the microwave, but you can certainly use a double boiler if you like. Place the red, white, and blue chocolate melts in separate bowls.
One at a time, microwave each color in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Stir the chocolate between intervals, and continue heating until the chocolate is smooth.
Remove the balls from the freezer so that you can start decorating the truffles to turn them into Fourth of July Oreo balls. Use a fork to hold the Oreo ball, and gently dip it into one of the colors. Let the excess chocolate drip off, and then place the ball on the parchment paper to harden.
Once all of the Oreo truffle balls are dipped in chocolate, you’re ready to add the finishing touches. Use the remaining melted chocolate to drizzle on top of the balls. Immediately top with sprinkles or whatever decorations you’d like to use.
The fun thing about these Fourth of July Oreo balls is that you can decorate them however you’d like. I decided to make the balls red and blue, then used the white chocolate for the accent color. However, doing a mixture of colors is a fun way to make a Patriotic display for your 4th of July celebration. By creating red, white, and blue Oreo balls, you can arrange them on a tray to look like a flag. Have fun making this easy no-bake dessert for your holiday celebration!
