About the Ingredients

These Rice Krispie treats with sprinkles have all of the classic ingredients for a rice cereal treat recipe. Melted butter and marshmallows are the gooey “glue” that allow the Rice Krispies to stick together. This recipe also includes plenty of colorful sprinkles, plus white chocolate and golden Oreos.

Substitutions: Here’s another thing that I love about Rice Krispie treats. You really can’t go wrong with what you use for mix-ins and toppings. That means that you can make substitutions as you’d like.

Skip the golden Oreos if you want. Or, use a different flavor Oreo. Chips Ahoy and other store bought cookies are good too. And for these sprinkle Rice Krispie treats, use whatever color or shaped sprinkles you’d like.

Step by Step With Photos

Because you need to move quickly when mixing in the rice cereal, I recommend getting this measured and set aside until you need it. Do the same by prepping a 9″x13″ baking pan. Line it with aluminum foil and leave some overhang to use as handles to remove the Rice Krispies from the pan.

Add 1/2 cup unsalted butter to a large saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat until melted. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon salt and stir to combine.

Add 10 ounces of mini marshmallows to the melted butter, and stir continuously until fully melted.

Remove the pan from the heat and immediately add 6 cups rice cereal. Mix until thoroughly combined, and then add the remaining marshmallows and 1/2 cup sprinkles. Mix until combined.

Transfer the Rice Krispie mixture to the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula, or your hands, to gently press the mixture into an even layer. Don’t press down too hard as you don’t want to compress the mixture.

Place 1/2 cup white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20 to 30 second intervals, stirring between intervals, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.

Remove the sprinkle Rice Krispie treats from the pan and place on a flat work surface. Drizzle the white chocolate on top of the treats. You can either use a fork to drizzle the chocolate, or for a neater method you can transfer the chocolate to a piping bag. Snip the corner of the bag and then apply the white chocolate drizzle in a zig-zag pattern. Top with extra marshmallows, sprinkles, and chopped golden Oreos. Or, whatever toppings you’d like.

Get creative with the sprinkle colors to match the occasionโ€”or just make them because itโ€™s Tuesday and you feel like something sweet. Hope you love them as much as we do!
